Large tree native to Europe and Asia with an expansive crown. Deciduous leaves dark green on top, soft and woolly underneath, turning yellow in autumn. Flowers before leafing with small brown-purple flowers gathered in clusters, followed by flat yellow-green fruits. Requires rich and fresh soil and is used in avenues and parks in mountainous areas.
