Sophora japonica MultistemmedOrigin: China, Korea. Deciduous tree with broad, round crown, distinguishable for the dark green bark with white lenticels on the trunk and branches of the young plants. In adult plants the trunk and branches are dark grey. Imparipinnate leaves, 20-25cm long made up of 7-17 deep green, oval leaflets. Flowers: in July-August, very numerous, butterflyshaped, creamy-white grouped in large, terminal clusters. Fruit: round, green, pendulous legumes, which look like a pearl necklace. Adapts to all types of soil providing it is not marshy. Tolerates heat and drought.
