Sambucus
Shrub or small tree with scaly, corky bark. Deciduous leaves made up of 5–7 leaflets. It blooms in June with aromatic, white, umbrella-shaped terminal flowers, followed by shiny black berries. Hardy, it grows better in calcareous soils and cool places. It is pollution-resistant and is used alone or for groves and hedges.
