Rhamnus alaternus BushOrigin: Portugal, Morocco, Crimea. Evergreen shrub, erect to spreading habit, with glossy dark green, obovateoblong coriaceous leaves of 7 cm. Flowers in late spring. The yellowish-green flowers, growing in bunches from the axil, are immediately followed by fruits which are initially red, then black. Very resistant to drought. Needs permeable soil.
