Quercus palustris Espalier on tall trunkOrigin: the United States. Deciduous tree with straight trunk and very dense branches which spread out horizontally and with time hang down in the lower part of the narrow and conical crown. Leaves 7-15cm long, lobed with acuminate and deeply cut lobes, glossy green on both sides, the winter colouring is vivid reddish-brown and begins to form at the tips of the shoots, then it gradually spreads to the whole leaf and twigs. Fruit: small acorns, chunky and oily contained in a shallow cup. Grows well in moist and boggy soil but gives good results also in normal garden soil including soil that is quite dry.
