Quercus cerris StandardOrigin: Central and Southern Europe, Asia Minor. Deciduous tree with tall, spreading shape. Very common in Italy, as a freestanding specimen grows into a mighty tree. Green leaves, oblong to oval, lobate, 6-12 cm long. Flowers: golden catkins, 5-6 cm long, in May. Fruits: acorns, 2-3 cm long, single or in groups of 4. Needs very alkaline or mildly acid, loose, clay soils.
