Conifer native to China and Japan, with an upright crown and peeling reddish-brown bark. Leaves are elongated, bright green with a grayish underside. Flowers are gathered in cone-shaped clusters, fruits are round cones green or purplish. Requires rich, deep, and non-calcareous soil. Used alone or in groups in parks.
