Male flowers are yellow and located at the base, female flowers are red and apical. Cones are green when young, becoming brown and rounded with age. Prefers cold climates and dry summers, has no specific soil requirements and tolerates calcareous soils. Does not require pruning but tolerates it well, resistant to salt spray and pollution.
