Metrosideros excelsa
A shrub native to New Zealand (where it can also be found in tree form). It has silvery, evergreen foliage. It flowers in May–June, producing red flowers in clusters. It requires rich, well-drained, non-calcareous soil. It is used as a container plant, in groups, and in hedges in coastal areas, due to its resistance to salt spray.
