Mahonia x media 'Charity' MultistemmedOrigin: England. Evergreen, upright shrub. With age the plant thins out at the base to reveal numerous rigid stalks with grey bark which gives it an exotic appearance. Imparipinnate leaves, up to 50cm long, made up of numerous, bright green, ovoidal, leathery leaflets, with thorny edges, often orangey-red in autumn. Flowers: numerous and long apical spikes of golden yellow, melliferous, fragrant flowers followed by long clusters of very showy, blue berries which last for many months. Requires cool, fertile, non-calcareous soil.
