Hibiscus syriacus
Most common variety of Hibiscus in Europe, with a dense, upright, and compact crown. Deciduous leaves that can take various shapes, up to 10 cm long and dark green. Blooms profusely from June to September with pink, white, red, or blue bell-shaped axillary flowers, with a dark red crown and white stamens. The fruits are round, gray-brown, 1-1.5 cm in size. Requires fertile and slightly moist soil, is sensitive to frost, and needs heavy pruning in February to promote flowering. Used for hedges and pergolas, grown in pots on terraces and verandas, and as medium and tall specimens for pathways and narrow roads, especially in holiday areas. Many cultivars of Hibiscus syriacus exist in Europe, propagated by grafting, in which the flower color gene is certainly transmitted. The cultivation requirements, uses, and characteristics of the foliage and crown are the same.
