Elaeagnus x ebbingei
Hybrid shrub between E. macrophylla and E. pungens with spiny, drooping branch tips. The evergreen leaves are dark green on top and silver with brown spots underneath, oval and slightly wavy, 3-6 cm wide and 5-10 cm long. It blooms from September to November with groups of 3-6 white, pendulous, tubular flowers. The fruits are red, olive-like, and edible. It also adapts to calcareous soils on the surface and moist in winter, forms excellent evergreen hedges, and tolerates pruning. As a tree, it is used for lining streets in seaside locations.
