Large shrub with a dense and initially columnar crown, which later spreads and becomes thinner over time. The leaves are dark green, oval to rhomboid, up to 5 cm long, with 3–7 lobes. It blooms with white corymbs in late spring and produces bright red round fruits about 6 cm in size. It grows best in deep, calcareous, and humus-rich soils, and is used for tree planting along narrow streets.
