Corylopsis pauciflora
Small shrub native to Japan with an expanded crown, main branches ascending while secondary branches drooping. The deciduous leaves are oval with serrated edges, 6 to 8 cm long, dark red when they appear, then pink, then green until autumn when they turn yellow. The flowers appear before the leaves, are pale yellow, and clustered in bunches. It requires loose, non-calcareous soil rich in humus.
