Cordyline australis BushOrigin: New Zealand. Evergreen tree with cylindrical trunk protected by a pale brown bark. Leaves: pale green, sessile, arching, from linear to lanceolate, 1m long, up to 8cm wide, thinning down to a sharp point. Flowers: from July to October in large terminal panicles of small, fragrant, cream or pale lilac flowers. The trunk often forms strong branches of various heights all of which end in a large tuft of leaves. No particular requirements as regards soil as long as it is well-drained and not too calcareous.
