Butia
Palm native to Brazil and Uruguay with a thick trunk and drooping crown. The evergreen leaves have dark brown spiny petioles up to 1 m long, are bluish-gray with downward tips, measuring 1.5 to 2 m in length, composed of many leaflets. It blooms in summer with drooping clusters of pale yellow flowers. The fruits are yellow-orange, oval-shaped, very numerous, and edible. It requires permeable soil rich in humus.
